Week 6
It was great to hear Dorothy converse regarding connection today. This to me, is a huge part of why we communicate online or should I say, one of the massive benefits of online learning. We live within a world today where whanau are so spread out but yet their support around learning is still invaluable. To have the opportunity for them to be able to be in touch with their tamariki's learning is so crucial and so possible.
When looking at our sites from Amy's screen, it became very obvious what could be viewed etc and how appealing/not appealing my site was! I have been able to look at my site today from another perspective which I feel has been great in improving my workflow as a professional. If it doesn't do what its meant to do, then its not worth having??
Having had the opportunity to begin fiddling around with my site will definitely have some benefit to both me and my learners. I feel that when I set it up, it was a matter of getting information on there. Now after time and reflection, it is great to be able to sort it out - a bit like when you move and initially unpack! At some stage a good clean up is needed (if you're like me and don't do it before you move lol).
I think that having a good clean up will benefit my learners as not only will it hopefully be more attractive and engaging but it will be easier for them to move amongst it all. As I have mentioned before, the initial set up is the 'worst'! Once you are all set up and going it is much better but still does need a good clean up and change around regularly. I think I need to get into the habit of this and even giving my students some criteria (similar to what we completed in our forms today) could be beneficial. Always good to have student voice, partificualry when it impacts them directly, and great role modelling for constructive feedback!
Kia ora Cindy, how is the cleaning up of your site going? I hope you took a before screenshot so you can compare with an after screenshot. Maintenance of the site is very important. Just like that window shopping clip we watch in Kerry's presentation. We have to constantly keep our sites active to engage our students. See you on Thursday. Amy
