Day 5 RPI
Day 5 RPI
What an amazing day full of such great resources that although I did know about, didn’t know about the extent of what they could do!
Sometimes I forget about JUST using images to begin discussions, particularly in regards to inferencing.
Great way to use reading for writing and vice versa.
Good reminder to be aware of splitting the timetable to be inclusive and the rationale behind this. I liked the idea that Georgie spoke about, of swapping times to ensure that those that are withdrawn don’t miss out but am grateful that in my class, withdrawal is the same time each day so I am able to avoid doing this. This is great for my class learners as they are so much productive when routine is maintained! I also struggle with the possibility of not offering choice for learners in order for them to take some agency over their learning and think that sometimes timetabling takes this away from our kids. It was great that the way in which timetabling was talked about, was to ensure that choice was still there for learners in the ‘must do’s’ and ‘can do’s’ - (what a mouthful - hopefully this makes sense!!)
I enjoyed the activity which modelled the ability to link reading and writing and totally agree with what was shared. Although it can be daunting to try and link these at times, it does work so well and is something that I need to practice and include more in my teaching.
I am excited to go back to my team and share with them the many available resources that are available for reading - not just to ‘read’ but to then follow up with comprehension questions and other response to text opportunities.
I feel sad that we are now over halfway through this PD and am excited that next term I will be in the classroom 4 days a week, rather than the current 2! I feel that this will really provide the opportunity to cement my learnings as this term has been a real struggle for me, given the time I have been out of the classroom, due to illnesses and the need to be flexible within my kura.

ReplyDeleteYes, I bet being in the classroom for 4 days for next term will really help to solidify your learning from RPI - I look forward to hearing how that goes.
Yes, there are so many great follow up activities and resources to use from this course. I have used many and tweaked them to best suit my learners.
See you on Friday,
Anna
Tena koe Cindy, it is great to hear that you have been inspired by what others have shared. Sometimes when we get inspiration from what others are doing and we implement it in our own practice it is really encouraging for our teaching practice. I can't wait for you to be the only teacher that the kids are having as that consistency for you and them will really make a difference with the RPI learning. Nga mihi Kaiya
