Reflection Day 1 of DFI!!

Today was the first day of DFI and I was a little unsure what to expect.  I had attended the beginning of the year day for new staff to Manaiakalani and had a little understanding of the kaupapa but really enjoyed hearing some of this again, along with new information.  I guess my first (beginning of year intro) was a little overwhelming with the shift north and not knowing anyone at the course, as well as having little knowledge of Manaiakalani.  To have had a term in the classroom and the support of our local facilitator, things just made more sense today.  I enjoyed finding out about the set up and the involvement of whanau voice in this.  The ability to have technology accessible to all enables all our learners to equity and the opportunity for better outcomes.  I also had not considered a device the way it was compared to a pencil today and this allowed me a better understanding of the choice of devices being different for the junior and senior students within our kura.

Throughout the day I picked up on a number of techniques or tools that I could use to make my using of my device more succinct and less frustrating (not sure succinct is the correct word!!) Even 'Marie Kondo-ing' my google drive will assist with my confidence and capability in being able to access and re-use resources.

The eyes on text activity was one that I would never have thought of implementing with my students.  I was not aware of the talking tool and feel it would be a fantastic one to try with the class, even just every now and again. As mentioned, it is not only a way of getting our struggling writers to record their ideas but also a 'fun' way of recording and practising oral language.

I am really looking forward to the next 7 or 8 sessions and getting to learn lots of new ways to engage my learners as well as gain confidence in this area of my practice.
